Life Legacy
Graydon Wesley Brown, 58, of Tulsa died on Saturday, July 14, 2012. He was an innocent bystander and victim of a fatal shooting in Tulsa. Born on September 2, 1953 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, he graduated from Ponca City High School. He earned a B.A. degree in Radio and Television Journalism at the University of Oklahoma.
Wesley moved to Tulsa after graduation and started his career as an announcer at KVOO. He made a career change to software programming. During his career, he was employed at Bethlehem Steel, American Airlines, Sabre/EDS and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Wesley was a confirmed bachelor until he met the love of his life, Kelly O’Neil. A joyous result of their marriage was their daughter, Madeline Rose Brown. Wesley was devoted to his wife, daughter, Madeline and stepdaughter, Erin Harper. Their family of four completed his life.
In addition to his family, his second greatest passion was the time he spent contra dancing and traveling to dance camps with Kelly and Madeline. He also founded “Tulsa Barn Dance” and called dances the first Saturday of every month; He was a well-known caller in the region.
Wesley and Kelly found immense pleasure attending Madeline’s activities including acting, singing, reading and basketball; he supported each one enthusiastically! Some of their favorite activities included donuts on Saturdays, long nature walks and practicing violin together. He enjoyed reading history and finance books, watching old movies and vintage collectibles.
Wesley was a strong community advocate. He served as treasurer for the Florence Park Neighborhood Association and was especially proud of his work to get trees replanted throughout the neighborhood after the 2007 ice storm. He attended many of Tulsa’s planning meetings and was an active supporter of the improvement of Florence Park with the Tulsa Parks Department.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly O’Neil Brown, daughters Madeline Rose Brown and Erin Kathleen O’Neil Harper, mother Marquetta Griswold Brown, three sisters, Gracelyn Alta Brown, Anitra Sue Brown Rowley, Jolly Brown Pugh, and cousins Richard Hall, Keta Jean Morgan, Elaine Hale and numerous nieces and nephews. His father Graydon Lester Brown preceded Graydon Wesley. Also, he will be missed by many loving friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21st at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. Dr. William E. Tankersley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Madeline Rose Brown Educational Fund, in care of Bank of Oklahoma, PO Box 1300, Tulsa, Ok 74102 or at any BOK branch.
